Big update

This story begins with the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, in which a few brave stragglers including Mr C, Miss R, and Mr J joined us for a smashing good time.

To my enormous amazement Mr C enjoyed himself so much he booked annual leave right away and, on and off, has been staying with us and helping with the house for two weeks.

That’s freindship for you.

We’ve certainly had some impressive progress since — demolition is now 99% complete, with just two chimney places to be opened up.

The sitting room has got its door back, and the two front fire places. The stud walls that split up the back of the house are all gone, so now the only working loo is in the kitchen. A bit odd, but hopefully that won’t last long.

We also laid the underfloor heating and poured concrete in the middle hallway so you can now walk from front to back of the house on one level.

A serious development is the credit-card punishing order of electrical items for the wiring – half a mile of copper cable, hundreds of sockets and switches, etc. Dad came down for the week to get that wiring process underway but it is, I think, fair to say we got less of that accomplished than hoped.

I had a weeks annual leave so got in a solid 10 consecutive days at the house, doing what I can do get it towards a basic level of habitability. There is still so much to do.

My sister is visiting this coming weekend. Let’s see if she fancies getting involved…
