Working week, days to fourth

While I’ve had two full days dedicated to work through Tuesday and Wednesday, I feel like I’ve achieved frustratingly little.

On Tuesday Mrs Revivalist and I had an unexpected hospital trip to check to on baby — who thankfully is fine and growing very nicely — before intercepting Mater and Mr R on their way south.

We ate lunch in a Honeytown pub before Mr R and I got off to Milby, while the ladies went back to Raveloe.

By the time we arrived it was already well into the afternoon, leaving us with time to do prep work only, narrowing concrete blocks up to the back garden and tidying up the mess inside.

Come Wednesday, our day was delayed again — mater was slow out of bed, then we had to stop at two builders merchants for wall ties and Tesco for food. We didn’t get working until eleven.

I laboured for Mr R for a bit mixing mortar, moving bricks etc and then he got on with bricking up the doorway into the back wall of the sitting room inserted in 1983.

Meanwhile, I got to work again cleaning mess and mater stripped wallpaper and made the teas.

I had a very unlucky day for driving — I tried to get out to our auctioneer to bring him some cash but found the way and only road totally blocked, so had to turn back and give up. Later when returning from Milby, what would have been a pleasant early evening became a cold late one when the throttle cable on Ethel snapped, leaving me disabled on a blind bend on double white lines on a very steep hill.

Thankfully mater’s car blocked the road behind me with hazards on, giving oncoming cars warning that my little broken Morris was in the way ahead.

Fast forward two hours and I’ve been recovered the very short distance down the road to my normal mechanic on the back of a truck. So frustrating as had I broken down 100 yards on I’d have got to the top of the hill and could have coasted the whole way home!

Alas, it was on a big hill instead. Bath and them bed. Do it all again tomorrow…
